The KNIGHTVALE trilogy

When you have a moment, read further to get a glimpse of the common perceptions of the different races which live within the mind of Amelia Adams Clark. These ideas have been put to paper in the first of three full length novels.

Book one, Hybrid of the pale race, is currently available in paperback and ebook editions.

Scavengers

Trained since childhood and stronger than the average ancient because of this, the scavengers roam from city to city gathering intel, relaying messages, and protecting the ancient cities from discovery. Their nomad way and intent to heal the world is frowned upon by the royals of the ancient world, but it is of no care to them. They have chosen this life at each step in their training and wouldn't have it any other way. Using their elemental magic in conjunction with their master fighting skills, even one scavenger is formidable in battle. They are warriors who will keep everyone safe should the ancient veils obscuring the cities fall, exposing their magical lands.

The pointed tips on their ears are hidden by a charm to make them passable as humans, and their clothing blends them into the forests around them. Their job has become harder in the past century as the lands around the veils become filled with human homes and industries. This does not hinder their efforts though, it only makes them fight harder, even working with humans at times to teach them sustainability.

Ancient Females

Tall and glamorous, her caramel complexion look tan year-round. Her golden or bronzed hair gleams in the bountiful sunshine of the glades. The royal airs consistent with European promenades, yet more subtle in their temperaments. Around groves and glens, she is seen singing to the elemental mother, healing her stress while bringing her magic into her body. The earth surrounds her in a mist of elemental magic which only serves to give her an ephemeral glow.

The female ancients do not feel pushed to the shadows like their pale cousins, but instead embrace the patriarchal society which the elders have prescribed. Her tall, pointed ears tilt slightly back in a superior aristocratic way as she gazes down on the other races who willingly harm the earth. She smiles at everyone around her even as her eyes show her distaste for any imperfection to their traits.

Protectors

Saviors of the night and first to fall, the protectors willingly train to become the first line of defense for the pale race. Females captured lead to diminishing numbers and families without their mothers' sisters' or daughters'. For many millennia it was their mission to simply protect the families for there are only seven. But since humans' discovery of their blood's magic, which can cure even the worse ailment, their mission has been focused on protecting and rescuing their females.

Strong, brooding, and unstoppable, the protectors do whatever it takes to be another's safety, even if they may be slightly chauvinist in their tactics.

The Pale Female

The pale female, though most would believe her to be strong and fierce, is quite the opposite in demeanor. Her high society nature, with only the best afforded her, has spoiled her to petulance. Though the males are consistently worried about her safety, she has forgotten of the nights she was free to come and go. Nights where there was no risk of walking into the full moon's glow alone.

Gone are the nights of freedom and fun as she silently picks out a new outfit or gossips among her female companions. But she is beyond the longing for past happiness as she sits on her patio surrounded by the protection of her family or mate. Content in her cell, she awaits the prophesy to be awakened, a prophesy which will release the cage and allow her to spread her wings.

Duneskil

Hidden under an ancient veil, the once abandoned hotel, Duneskil, is one of the compounds used by the pale race. From the grand looped driveway to the balconies overlooking garden landscapes, this place is a haven for the pale and vampires alike. The commander invites those he trusts to see beyond the mystical barrier, and when they do, their lives change. Brought into the fold of the royal Knight family, they no longer live within the dregs of human society but contribute to something bigger.

Soren Knight, the commander, is a former protector whose role is intel. Most protectors would complain about becoming a desk jockey, but not him. He lost someone in decades past who meant the world to him, an unmarked lifemate, if you will. To combat the sadness of her disappearance, he opened channels the pale council never considered just to find her. Today this network is so vast that the information he possesses is priceless. Any pale, vampire, ancient or human seeking information that may be out there goes to him, whether they know his pale heritage or not.

Vampires

Only able to be transitioned by one of the pale race, vampires are beholden to their pale parent. Transitioning is easy for them to go through, but hard to come by with only seven pale families in existence and their numbers dwindling. Blood magic keeps a vampire from death until they are burned or starved, for the blood magic sustaining them requires human blood to feed it.

They are without the ability to create more vampires or have children of their own, so they wander in their minds as they live to serve the pale parent who transitioned them. Because they were at one point human, they are not tied to the alabaster complexion of the pale or the golden complexion of the ancients. Their skin reflects the ethnicity of their first birth, but simply without a tan due to the risk of frying in the sun.

Housecleaners, bartenders, protectors, and more, the vampires do what they can to blend into the human world, even if it can only happen at night. Most pale families have businesses which are run at night by vampires. This makes life easier for both the pales and the vampires, but many vampires still long for the benefits of the human life they left behind.

Lesai

The houses are not quite houses at all. Think tree houses sung into the weaving of the trees themselves, neither disturbing nor being disturbed by the world surrounding them. Sitting high up in the trees, they resemble giant burls or tumors which appeal only to the eye of an artistic mind. The veil dropped around the ancient city cannot be seen and obscures civilization from any eye. Only an ancient who is in tune to the elemental magic can sense it, yet only one invited can see past into the magical world.

Children with pointed ears play happily among the uncut grass and wild shrubs while their watchers and parents complete their duties to their community. Tinkling laughter can startle those who embrace the quiet serenity of Lesai, and every moon or so, a scavenger will duck back beneath the veil with greetings. Objects from the outside world and other ancient cities will be in hand as they allow the children to tow them along for a story of foreign life beyond their ancient magic.

This serene beauty also holds secrets and darkness which can never truly be deciphered in outward appearance. Only those who mean harm know their intent... well, them and the elemental mother. The goddess who created all life and allows her magic to flow through their bodies as a payment for taking care of the earth. She knows all and even when darkness threatens the horizon, she has a plan to defeat treachery.
